and the Oscar goes to...

First I would like to thank my lack of a social life, which allowed me to watch this broadcast in its entirety. Without a social life I was able to plan my entire weekend around this event. So for that... I thank you !

Ok down to business!! The Oscars this year were PHENOMENAL!  Ellen did a great job as host ( especially during the first half) and when she had the pizza delivered my first thought was "genius"

However there were quite a few moments that are certainly worth mentioning, First let's talk fashion!!

BEST DRESSED OF THE NIGHT GOES TO...

I dare anyone to have anything negative to say about this dress. It is EVERYTHING! I have always been a fan of Charlize Theron's beauty, but on this night her fashion was also a scene stealer. WELL DONE CHARLIZE!!

BEST SPEECH & MOST FABULOUS OF THE NIGHT GOES TO...

Lupita Nyong'o!!!  This ravishing beauty won for BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS for her role in " 12 Years a Slave" a movie I have not yet seen ( so I can't make any judgements) but her look was flawless, the color of that dress against her skin was a perfect choice and her speech brought tears to my eyes. The most touching line was :

"Thank you to the Academy for this incredible recognition. It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s"

There were some other highlights to the night. One of them was...

Matthew McConaughey winning for best actor. I'm not mentioning him for his performance in "Dallas Buyers Club" ( although I saw it I think he did a good job) ...i just find him attractive, plus that southern drawl he has is just...WHOAH!!  Congrats Matthew!

                                                       BEST PHOTO OF THE NIGHT

The awesomeness that is Jennifer Lawrence is the only one who could pull this awesome photo off. Not to mention that she also looks super fabulous in her dress!! What isn't there to adore about her?!? NOTHING...that's what ;0)

MOST CREATIVE MOMENT OF THE NIGHT

The infamous selfie that shut down Twitter. Adorable in so many ways!

                                                                   AND

In a time when it seems like so many Hollywood stars are eating gluten free and  writing cookbooks with expensive ingredients that can only be shipped to your house on a chartered jet ( yes I'm referring to you Gewneth)  it was cool to see celebs eating the pizza Ellen ordered and actually enjoying it!

Overall I thought the broadcast was great!!  The winners deserved all the praise they received and the fashion ( as usual) is worth discussion. What a way to bring awards season to a close. Don't you agree?

I'm a little late with this post so let's hope Putin doesn't mind...;0)

I

Once every 2 years I get insanely excited! Why do you ask?  THE OLYMPICS!!!

As you all well know the Winter Olympics have recently ended but there was no shortage of drama, scandal or medals for the USA!! Now let's start with one of the biggest stories of the Olympics ...that one lone ring not expanding in the opening ceremony. Now when I saw it I noticed but didn't loose sleep over it. However with so much riding on this games I'm sure Putin wasn't jazzed.

Next was the scandal that was the speed skating results. The United Dtates is known for its superior speed skaters but we didn't seem to be performing in the manner we are used to. With skaters like Shaunie Davis and JR Celski  ( guaranteed to earn gold medals) it was upsetting ( for me, it was gut wrenching) to watch them fall short of their record speeds and not make the podium. So what does the USA do? We request to go back to the uniforms they wore prior to the Olympics ( in actually found out that the olympic suits weren't tested to the extent they should have been...come on USA step your game up!!) as a result we earned silver in the team relay but other medals were hard to come by since we had already fallen far behind before the uniform change.

Fortunately our ice dancing due earned a well deserved gold medal but that was soon overshadowed by a gold medal in women's figure skating when Russia earned the gold medal with a sub par performance ( it has recently come to light that the winner allegedly knew one of the judges and that same judge is married to a Russion Olympic committee member, in addition to having been suspended from judging several years ago for fixing the winter Olympic Games several years back) A TRAVESTY I TELL YOU...TOTALLY TRAVESTY!!! The silver medalist was ROBBED!!!

But overall I loved every minute if the games. I feel like the Winter games don't get enough love and I'm here to share that there is at least one person , who has an obsession with the  games that is unparalleled ( ME!!!!)

Did you watch the games? And if not... what was on TV that was soo important that you missed it?!? Yes I'm looking at you!!

The Super Bowl is where?? Oh I'm sorry, you're mistaken. Let me explain

Today is the Super Bowl !! A day coveted by so many football fans who were fortunate enough to have their teams earn a spot at this final battle. So to the Denver Bronco fans and Seattle Seahawks fans...congrats! However this post is about something slightly more serious...;0)

Where is the Super Bowl this year? NY right?? Ummmm HECK NO!! The two New York teams that share the 'New York' title don't play in New York AT ALL! The Giants have been playing in New Jersey since 1976 and the Jets joined them in the same stadium in 1984 ( before that they were each playing at different baseball stadiums).

However this past week on the news all I can see are festivities taking place in NY. There is a "Super Bowl blvd" set up in NYC where all the pre game excitement is taking place. That doesn't seem fair to me. Those teams play right here in NJ so why don't we get any of the glory? You know what NY , if your football teams are so important to you then find a place for them to play in NEW YORK.  There isn't any reason why NJ shouldn't get some of the glory for being home to this stadium for over 30 yrs!!

As a proud NY Giants fan I'm glad they play right here in my home state but I can only hope that one day we get more recognition for letting both teams stay at our place, rent free .

So if you're planning on traveling to the Super Bowl today and are on your way to NY...you've gone too far. Drive back through the Lincoln tunnel and head towards East Ruterford, NJ. Cause it's the best kept secret in the NFL!!

New Year...New 'Blogitude'

Hey There!

Ok I know it was been FOR-EVER since I've posted a blog. I sarted this thing all " yay blogging, I'm gonna attack you like a fan girl at a boy band's hotel room" but then the year got away from me and I wasn't feeling very inspired to blog as often as I would have liked. But guess what???? I'm back !! It's a new year and I've got a new blogitude ( don't even act like that word doesn't just sparkle. Just remember where you read it first!)

There are soo many reasons why 2014 (at least the beginning) is gonna be Bomb-tactic and worth blogging about.  Here are just a few:

-  It's awards season!!!  One of my favorite times of the year and it's already in full swing. I'm in the process of attempting to see every movie nominated for a Best Picture Oscar this year and so far I've seen 'American Hustle' (I was not impressed despite the stellar cast, it just never got off the ground for me. PS: it's supposed to be a comedy..ummm swingand a miss). However watching for the fashion, seeing who wins and watching the acceptance speeches is what it's all about.

-  THE OLYMPICS!! now there are a few things that I totally geek out over, they are: HARRY POTTER, Justin Timberlake ( and the Backstreet Boys), and the Olympics. This year the winter games are in Sochi and there are quite a few athletes to look out for and of course a country to root for ... GO USA!!!   So every two years when the games come around my schedule is rearranged and my attention is diverted to this great display of sportsmanship and national pride.
PS: for some reason speed skating and figure skating are my two favorites. I'm sure most would understand figure skating however, I can't quite explain speed skating but it gets me every time. (have you ever taken a look at their thighs??? Geeze they could crack walnuts)

-  I also want to revamp my blog and give it a nice new design. I've gotten some awesome referrals to some blog designers so I hope that you all will be looking at a new and improved "Pop Culture, Cupcakes, and Chaos" by the spring. Yay pretty things! :0)

-  IM GOING TO SEE JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE!! Sorry I'm not screaming it's just an event that deserves to be put in caps. He is super talented and yummy.  Yup he ranks right up there with ...my need to BREATH AIR!! Yeah he is singing to me in this picture, can't you tell?

- And last but certainly not least "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" in Orlando is adding an addition to their theme park!!! My plan was to take a trip there this year anyway, but now this summer they are adding Diagon Alley and the Hogwarts Express just to name a few.  The Epicness of this is unparallel. The additions will be complete this summer, so I suspect I'll be making a trip out there no later than the fall. There are very few places that can make me cry simply by being there and I know this is one of them ( please don't judge). Thank you to my lovely friend Carissa ( who has a blog named T is for Towsend) for sharing this awesome information with me.  She understands the importance of this and I believe we are kindred Harry Potter spirits ;0)

So please take a seat with me and let's start 2014 in style. Well more like in a pair of leggings and some UGGS, so we might not be in style but we'll be comfy ;0)

Much ado about nothing...I guess

So I haven't blogged in a while and it's not cause I don't want to it's just that I don't have much to blog about. I'm not sure if as a blogger you're supposed to apologize for not blogging or act like you've never left...I'll stick with the latter.

Ok so this year has been pretty uneventful for me. Since graduating from graduate school I haven't been able to find employment. So I'm trying to take this time to not dwell in my own sadness ( harder than it looks) and so I'll share with you what I've been up to. nothing spectacular but hey it's worth a mention.

1. I've been doing ALOT of dog sitting for my brother. He lives in MD and has a dog that I absolutely adore. She was a rescue that he adopted 12 years ago and she is still going strong (albeit a little slower but still strong). I watched her for about 2 weeks and have become a pro at picking up dog poop.  I can finally say that I'm ready for my own dog, since that was the one barrier that was keeping me from taking the plunge

                                                               Isn't she adorable?!?!

2. I"M GOING TO SEE JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE!!! Sorry for the caps, I'm not yelling....wait YES I AM!!  It is that serious!!! Its not for a few more months but it's worth the wait. PLUS you know it must be serious if I'm going to see him in Philadelphia because out of every city in the US that is the one I despise the most. But if Justin's going to be there nothing can keep me from him!

3.I saw "The Best Man Holiday" on Sunday!!! I have been waiting for this movie to come out since I saw the fist one back in 1999 ( WOW right??)  and it was an emotional roller coaster but worth every minute. SUPERB!!!

This is me in NYC on Saturday with only one more day left until I was gonna see the movie. I WAS EXCITED! ( Yup I'm lame with no shame :0)

4. Those of you who know me know that I'm dead serious when I say that HARRY POTTER is a way of life! I have a bucket list and then I have a separate HARRY POTTER bucket list of all things HARRY POTTER that mainly include places I want to visit and explore. However I also read the Hunger Games series and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now here is a warning to those who have yet to read it but are curious. It's not as good as HARRY POTTER but it's kind of like comparing apples to oranges. Now having said that it was still very good but all three books aren't as good as the first ( 1st was a 10, 2nd was an8, and the 3rd was about a 5). However the second movie is coming out on Friday and I would be lying if I said that I wasn't excited about it ( review coming soon!)

                                                                TEAM PEETA!

5. I've also been looking for someone to design my blog who isn't too expensive. I've open to suggestions and recommendations. I know I'm still new at this but I think I'm ready to take it to the next level...JAZZ ME UP!

6. Lastly, time is ticking and I CANNOT for the life of me decide on which Erin Condren  Life Planner cover to pick. I go through this every year and this year is no different, I've already done the "Favorite Things" cover, and the "Fleur Feliz" cover but now I'm stuck and can't choose between like 4 more that I love. #firstworldproblems.

7. But mostly I've been looking for a job. If you know of anyone looking for an experienced, hard working HR professional with an MPA please let me know !!!! ( hey a shameless plug never hurt anyone right?)

Cup Crazy !!!!!

Let's discuss a pop culture phenomenon that has turned into something that cannot be contained and it is driving me NUTS!! It's the cup song or " Cups" as it's formally called.

Now I want to start by saying that I'm a fan of Anna Kendrick and Pitch Perfect was BEYOND awesome. Howeverthe cup song is now all over the place and I cannot seem to go anywhere without hearing it or seeing someone between the ages of 10 and 22 trying to form that popular rythem with their glass at a restaurant or online ( in one of the million copycat YouTube videos). Please everyone there are valid and substantial reasons why this MUST STOP...

1. Your attempt does not sound the same. Anna had a long time to practice and that heavy glass you're using from "The Cheesecake Factory" is not the right prop

2. Please understand that this is not the first song to be accompanied by a cup. Not sure which one came first but in my opinion it was done better by two young sisters (Lennon and Maisy) who later went on to co-star in the awesome show "Nashville" . Please clock this link to check out their awesomeness...http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/lennon-maisy-live-youtube/id555053161

3. You're killing the awesomeness that could have been this catchy quirky song that had a cup as it's main accompanying instrument. Please understand just because something is cool and different doesn't mean everyone has to learn to do it. That's how quirky turns to catchy, which turns into annoying and then finally it lands in the ' not even good enough for American Idol' pile.

So please everyone give the cup song a rest.

Aca-STOP!!

Don WHAT?!?!?!

Movie-goer BEWARE !! I mean that in the 'make sure that you talk to someone who has seen the random movie written, and starring a celebrity you're not sure if you like yet' kind of way.

I saw "Don Jon". You know, the one written and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Well I went with the BF and we were both looking forward to seeing it but goodness gracious neither of us were expecting what we encountered. It was like soft porn or something.

It's about a guy who is addicted to porn and his struggles in trying to hold a serious relationship while keeping that addiction secret.  I guess I kind of knew that info before I saw it but I didn't expect so much nudity and/or graphic footage. I mean I kind of liked Joseph Gordon-Levitt ( long name that's kind of annoying to say right? But he grew up to be sort of a looker so the name...eeehhh not so bad anymore) but when I saw this I just left the theatre confused and not sure what to think.

I just would like to warn anyone who may or may not watch this movie in the near future. Do not expect a regular movie with like a conclusion or anything cause you'll probably be disappointed and wonder why the theatre (or RedBox) charged you full price.

I'm still shaking my head...
